CRIB GIVES BACK

Making a difference to our community.

At CRIB’s very core is the desire to make positive impact on the community. As a non-profit, we are committed to donating everything above our lean operating costs to charity. We do this through our philanthropic arm, CRIB Gives Back.

CRIB Gives Back comprises two components: fundraising and grant funding. Each year, we raise funds for a specific beneficiary charity, while concurrently building a social enterprise grant to seed-fund a selected social enterprise. This is done through an array of programmes and activities, which include the annual CRIB Summit and CRIB Ball.

Each year, CRIB Gives Back selects a beneficiary charity based on its cause.

Around the world, at least 82.4 million people around the world have been forced to flee their homes. Among them are nearly 26.4 million refugees, around half of whom are under the age of 18.

Two of the world's largest crisis at the moment include the Afghanistan and Ukraine emergencies.

In Afghanistan, millions of people are experiencing misery and hunger amid decades of conflict, the collapse of the country’s economy, years of drought, and freezing wintertime temperatures.

In Ukraine, an escalation of military offensive in February 2022 has turned an already volatile situation into a full-scale emergency. People are leaving their homes to try to find safety elsewhere within the country and are crossing borders into neighbouring countries.

The crisis is taking the heaviest toll on women and children, who make up 80% of refugees and internally displaced people.

At CRIB, we believe it is our responsibility to help women and children in need where we see need and in what little ways we can. To raise awareness and funds for these humanitarian crises, CRIB Gives Back has joined hands with 3 beneficiary organisations doing life-giving and life-saving work in the affected areas:

OPERATION HOPE FOUNDATION

OHF is a charity which seeks to transform the lives of children and underprivileged communities in developing countries such as Cambodia and Nepal. OHF provides a better life for orphans, abandoned children and those with parents who are unable to provide for them. The charity does this by operating children’s homes as well as building houses, wells and toilets.

Holiday For Hope

CRIB HOLIDAY FOR HOPE

Holiday for Hope is a travel-for-good programme initiated by CRIB society and Operation Hope Foundation. It aims to open the hearts and minds of the next generation by inculcating the values of giving and compassion to the younger ones.

On 6-9th December 2018, 6 families with 7 children traveled from the bustling and modern Singapore to the laid-back and enchanting Siem Reap, Cambodia for Holiday for Hope. The highlight of the 4D3N trip was visiting Steng Primary School to distribute necessities received from our generous donors, which include clothes, slippers, and stationery packs. During the trip, the families also carried out an eye test for the children in school! Most of the children have good eyesight but a handful have vision problems such as Myopia and Amblyopia.

After 2 successful missions in Cambodia in support of Operation Hope Foundation (OHF), we are excited to bring our families to the land of the Himalayas where OHF also has a presence doing its good work, making hope real for people trapped in poverty. Our charity arm CRIB Gives Back embarks on the next chapter of our signature Holiday for Hope programme, with our upcoming trip to Nepal from 20th - 24th November.

OHF runs Hope Trust Nepal, a children’s home in Kathmandu, as well as the Raise the Roof project, which helps villagers who have lost their homes in natural disasters (many have lived in makeshift shelters for the past 4 years) rebuild their homes. The rice bag homes that OHF trains villagers to build are earthquake resistant, cheaply and easily constructed and last a lifetime, and provide a sustainable solution that changes lives. For every S$1,500 raised, OHF is able to provide a displaced family with the materials to build a 200 square-feet Rice Bag house.

Sincere thanks to the entire CRIB community for your generous support of EmancipAction! Last year’s CRIB Ball raised enough funding to extend socio-emotional care to one additional home for vulnerable girls in India. 30 children who have been rescued from sexual violence and/or enslavement are now receiving the healing care that gives traumatized kids the skills, mindset and opportunities to transform their lives. Moreover, we have been able to invest in the tools and training to begin to scale the program to other homes in India.

PLEDGE IT FORWARD

The Pledge It Forward (PIF) campaign was started by The Social Co., founded in 2014 with their first initiative, 50 For 50. The main objective of Pledge It Forward is to encourage as many people as possible to give back, in whatever ways they can. Hence, our goal is to raise 10,000 pledges (each pledge is a donation of any amount) by the end of this year. We believe in collective impact - $10 from one person might not seem much, but $10 each from 1,000 people makes a huge difference!
